The Tiger Drive Scholarship

Our Winners

And the winner is…

Thanks to the generous donations made by friends and strangers, we were able to award two students with a Tiger Drive Scholarship for this upcoming school year, and I am excited to introduce you to both recipients this week and next.

I’d like to start with Karen.

Karen Tiger Drive Scholarship

While we had several amazing candidates to consider, Karen caught our attention with her high GPA, her work ethic, her gratitude, and her determination:

My name is Karen. When I was four years old, my parents brought me to the United States so that I could have better opportunities. My parents did not have the opportunity to attend school past middle school, and they have always strived to give me and my siblings the best they could. Through my years in school I have always strived and put in my best effort to reach my goal.

My dream has always been to become a pediatrician. I have always known that education helps open doors. I believe that with hard work and dedication a person can do anything, that nothing comes easy in life, and I will always have to work for what I want. I have always valued the fact that I was brought to a country that offers thousands of opportunities to those who strive to be their best. I have never allowed minor things to get in the way of my success because in my mind, success is something that is possible for everyone who invests the amount of effort it takes to obtain it. Therefore, obtaining good grades has always been my main priority.

I started working when I was fifteen as a Lifeguard at the public pool. Getting certified was very difficult because I wasn’t a very good swimmer, however with practice, I was able to overcome the physical challenge and get the job. When I was seventeen, I started my second job at an office supply store. Despite being a full-time student, I am currently working both jobs to save money for college, and I am maintaining my grade point average.

As graduation approaches I feel very emotional about moving on to pursue my dreams. At this point I am aware that I can use all the help that people are willing to give. I am very proud of myself for planning my life as a college student because it has always been one of my biggest goals.

~ Karen

On June 4th, Karen accepted her high school diploma and she is starting college in the fall. When she found out she won the Tiger Drive Scholarship she said that she plans to offer a similar scholarship someday. How cool is that?

CONGRATULATIONS, KAREN!
We look forward to following your future successes and watching you reach, learn, and grow.

Next time, I’ll tell you more about our other inspiring winner, Viansa. Until then, thanks for being you and for joining me here today.
